Hiking in Draa Valley :
The Drâa Valley, formed by a narrow ribbon of water from the High Atlas that occasionally emerges triumphantly in lush oases, particularly between Agdz and Zagora, a stretch of about 95km. The drive from Agdz to Zagora takes three to four hours, though the more scenic Circuits Touristiques route follows the through the oasis. Beyond that, a road takes you 96km further south to M’Hamid, a town 40km short of the Algerian border that marks the end of the road and the start of the desert proper
Draa valley is full of Berber kasbahs and vast fabulous palm groves, our trek is going take you through the most beautiful desert landscapes of oasis and sand dunes.
Draa valley is the longest river in the whole country 1100km and it does empty in the atlantic ocean at the souther wesetern town of Tantan.
Day 1 : Arrival day into Marrakech:
You will be picked up from the aireport and transferred to your hotel to freshen up. The rest of the afternoon / evening is at your leisure to explore the exciting city of Marrakech. Make your own arrangements for dinner (dinner not included)
Day 2 : Marrakech – Tizi n tichka mountain pass – Ouarzazate – Agdez –Zagoura – Lalla Kebira:
Transfer from Marrakech (leaving at 8am) via the Tizi’N Tichka mountain pass then down to the southern face of the High Atlas into Ouarzazate for lunch. Continue to Agdez then throughout the Draa valley passing by several Ksers (fortified villages), some inhabited and some abandoned as ruins. There will be a stop in Zagora, the gateway to the Sahara Desert where once nomads set off to Tombocto on a 52 day journey. Your cook will buy provisions here. Finally continue driving to the Dunes Lalla Kebira (Marabout, St. Kébira) for an overnight camp. You’ll be able to take a short walk around the oasis of small dunes at Lalla Kebira before turning in for the night. 7h30 of driving.
Day 3 : Dunes and Oasis de Lalla kébira – Beni Ali – oasis Foum Taqqat, Camp :
After breakfast, and taking up camp, the team will load the camels whilst you start the trek down the Draa valley in the direction of the Beni Ali oasis for lunch in the shade of the date palm trees. After lunch you will carry on to the wild Oasis of Foum beside the mountainous Jebel Bani, where you will camp overnight.5 hours walking.
Day 4 : Oasis Foum Taqqat – Dunes Nesrate – Ksar Ait Isfoul – Camp :
After breakfast, you’ll trek off down to Draa valley through dates grove plantions to your lunch spot at the oasis of Nesrate. After lunch, there is a lovely walk through Berber villages along the valley to camp at Ksar Ait Isfoul. 5h30 of walking.
Day 5 : Oasis and dunes Nesrate – Zaouiat Sidi Saleh – Dunes Tidiri – Camp :
After breakfast, you’ll set off for another nice walking day through farming land and a small sand dune to get to the lunch spot near the Marabout of Sidi Saleh. After a delicious lunch you’ll carry on to set up your camp nearby the dunes of Tidiri. 5 hours of walking. Day 6 : Tidiri Dunes – Oasis and dunes Regabi-Dunes Erg Lihoudi Camp (B,L,D): After breakfast, we head off for the highlight of this trek, walking through the dunes of Tidiri. Lunch will be just before you reach the Dunes of Regabi, and a further two hours walking will get you to the final camp setup the dunes of Erg Lihoudi.6 hours of walking.
Day 7 : Dunes of Erg Lihoudi – Oulad Driss – return to Marrakech:
Early breakfast, the crew will load the car then you’ll start the long journey back to Marrakech with some resting stops on the way to enjoy the views and have lunch/drinks. Arrive back to Marrakech.2h30 of walking plus another 8 hours.
